THE MUSIC OF PAUL SIMON

TWO OF AUSTRALIA'S most iconic singers, Grace Knight and Wendy Matthews, have joined forces for a run of special Victorian shows this March exploring the music of revered songwriter Paul Simon.

Grace and Wendy are both multi-award winning artists with a swag of Countdown, MTV and ARIA awards between them, and numerous platinum albums under their belts.

Long-time friends, they’ve always been on the look-out for an opportunity to tour together and thanks to a small break in their equally hectic tour schedules, We’re Going To Graceland – The Songs Of Paul Simon has come to fruition.

We’re Going To Graceland – The Songs Of Paul Simon showcases the amazing vocal talents of these two music industry giants and will thrill audiences with their interpretations of the iconic collection of songs.

Paul Simon has written some of the best known songs in music history, from Simon & Garfunkel gems like Sounds of Silence, The Boxer, Homeward Bound and Bridge Over Troubled Water, to his chart-topping solo classics such as You Can Call Me Al, Late In The Evening and Graceland.

His albums Bridge Over Troubled Water and Graceland are among the highest selling albums of all time.

FRIENDS COLLABORATE

For Wendy Matthews, this is an exciting opportunity.

“It’s wonderful and so much fun to share the stage with a long-time friend and fellow musician,” she says.

“We’ll have a blast. Paul Simon’s songs span decades from Simon & Garfunkel to so many award-winning Paul Simon records. Everyone knows these iconic songs, so it’s an interactive fun and fab night had by all.”

Grace Knight says the collaboration has been a long-time coming.

“Finally, after years of saying, ‘we should’, Wendy and I are standing side-by-side on stage singing together, and we’re absolutely loving it,” she says.

“The Paul Simon songbook was a no brainer. He’s one of the most prolific songwriters in history. His lyrics tell fantastic stories that have inspired musicians, singers and fans for decades.

"We are touring with an awesome band and the show is great fun and really energetic. From the first to the last song, the audience is right there with us, singing along loudly, hit after hit! The world seems a happier place after this show.”

WENDY MATTHEWS

Wendy Matthews arrived in Australia in 1982 and immediately established herself as an in-demand session singer performing on albums by Jimmy Barnes, Tim Finn, Richard Clapton and Icehouse.

After collaborating with Kate Ceberano on the soundtrack for the ABC series, Stringer, she went on to form Absent Friends and sing on the number one hit, I Don’t Want To Be With Nobody But You and the album Here’s Looking Up Your Address.

Following Absent Friends she’s had a stellar solo career across ten solo albums, including Émigré (Double Platinum), Lily (over 500,000 albums) and The Witness Tree (Platinum).

Along the way she’s picked up nine ARIA awards including six as a solo artist.

GRACE KNIGHT

Grace Knight arrived in Australia in 1977 after singing her way across the world.

During the 1980s Grace took the world by storm as lead singer of Eurogliders with headline tours of Australia, New Zealand, North America and Japan and racked up two platinum albums (This Island and Absolutely), five top twenty singles and played to a live TV audience of 65 million people on the MTV New Year’s Eve show.

In 1990, Grace, along with Vince Jones, performed on the soundtrack for the ABC TV series, Come In Spinner.

The album went on to become one of the highest selling Australian Jazz albums ever, selling over 230,000 copies. Grace followed this with the Platinum selling, ARIA award-winning Stormy Weather and a further seven solo albums.

Grace has been nominated for ARIAs in each of the last three decades and has performed for two Royal Families, five Prime Ministers and a US President.

Don’t miss the opportunities to see these two iconic singers side-by-side – tickets are on sale now for the following: March 26, 2020 - Memo Music Hall, St Kilda Vic; March 27 - Shoppingtown Hotel, Doncaster Vic; March 28 - Village Green Hotel, Mulgrave Vic; and March 29 - Caravan Music Club, East Bentleigh Vic.
