Troy Cassar-Daley tops the list with 8 nominations
AUSSIE country music legend Troy Cassar-Daley has topped the nominations for the 2022 Country Music Association of Australia Inc (CMAA) and Tamworth Regional Council's 50th annual Golden Guitar Awards securing 8 nominations.

The nominees for the 50 Golden Guitar Awards were announced this week by multi-award winning artist Kirsty Lee Akers and her husband Jesse Anderson at Tamworth’s Town Hall, the place where the very first Golden Guitar was awarded in 1973.
CMAA Chairman, Mr Dan Biddle, said: “The list of talented nominees shows just how diverse, creative and inspiring Australia’s country music industry is right now. The record number of entries is a true testament to the resilience and passion of our artists and industry professionals. On behalf of the board of the CMAA, I would like to congratulate all the nominees in the Toyota 50th Golden Guitar Awards.”
In a record-breaking year, the 2022 nominees were selected from more than 760 entries – the biggest number of entries ever.
Topping the list of nominees is multi-award winning artist and Aussie icon Troy Cassar-Daley with his album The World Today, which debuted at number three on the ARIA’s Top Album Chart, scoring nominations in the Alt Country Album of the Year and Toyota Album of the Year categories. His song I Hear My River has been nominated for Heritage Song of the Year, while his hit single Back on Country is nominated in the APRA AMCOS Song of the Year, Apple Music Single of the Year and CMT Video of the Year categories.
Mr Cassar-Daley is also nominated for the coveted Male Artist of the Year, and with Ian Moss for Vocal Collaboration of the Year for their track South. The 2022 nominations, along with his ARIA nomination for Best Country Album cementing his 11 studio album, as one of the most successful in his 30-year long music career.
The Wolfe Brothers have also picked up a swag of nominations, with their nostalgic, 90s inspired album Kids on Cassette putting the duo up in seven categories.
Their fifth studio album, which has also claimed a 2021 ARIA nomination for Best Country Album and has been nominated in the 2022 Toyota Golden Guitar Awards Contemporary Country Album of the Year and Toyota Album of the Year categories, while the title track Kids on Cassette is up for APRA AMCOS Song of the Year and CMT Video of the Year.
The duo is also nominated for Heritage Song of the Year (Small Town Song), Vocal Collaboration of the Year for Startin’ Something featuring LOCASH, as well as Country Music Capital News Group or Duo of the Year.
With a 2021 ARIA nomination under his belt, Shane Nicholson is up for five Golden Guitar awards in 2022. His ninth studio album Living in Colour is up for Alt Country Album of the Year and Toyota Album of the Year, while his track And You Will Have Your Way is nominated in the APRA AMCOS Song of the Year and Apple Music Single of the Year categories. He is also up for Male Artist of the Year.
The duo of Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham are nominated for Country Music Capital News Group or Duo of the Year, with their album The Song Club up for Alt Country Album of the Year and Toyota Album of the Year and their track Spare Parts nominated for CMT Video of the Year.
Rising folk and country artist Angus Gill has picked up four nominations including Traditional Country Album of the Year for his bluegrass inspired album, The Scrapbook. He’s also nominated for Bluegrass Recording of the Year (Always on the Run), Bush Ballad of the Year (The Easy Way) and Instrumental of the Year (Musterin’ season with Linsday Waddington).
Adam Harvey, Catherine Britt and Darlinghurst all picked up three nominations, while dual nominations went to Amy Shark (feat. Keith Urban), Andrew Swift, Ashleigh Dallas, Brad Cox, Casey Barnes, Jayne Denham, Kristy Cox, Matt Scullion, Michael Waugh, Montgomery Church, Raechel Whitchurch and The Weeping Willows.
There were 31 artists with single nominations including Allan Caswell, Amber Lawrence, Andrew Farriss, Camille and Stuie, Camille Trail, Cass Hopetoun, Cornell & Carr, Davidson Brothers, Dean Perrett, Dianne Lindsay, Fanny Lumsden, Hayley Jensen, Ian Moss, Jedd Hughes, Katrina Burgoyne, Kaylee Bell, Kim Cheshire, Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes, Lee Kernaghan, Lindsay Waddington, Luke O’Shea, Michael Carpenter and The Banks Brothers, Morgan Evans, O’Shea, Pete Denahy, Sam Hawksley, Sammy White, The McClymonts, Tracy Coster, Travis List and Troy Kemp.

Your perseverance with your art during this challenging period has brought life and light to NSW at a time when it has never been more needed.
“We are proud to support CMAA in celebrating the strength and incredible resilience of our country music industry and we look forward to supporting large-scale music events like Tamworth Country Music Festival to get musicians back out and performing in front of their fans.”
Toyota Australia Chief Marketing Officer John Pappas said Toyota was proud to support the Golden Guitar Awards and congratulated all the nominees in this 50th year of the awards.
“Toyota has been a longstanding supporter of Australia’s premier country music awards and it’s fantastic to see the depth of talented artists that we have in this country,” Mr Pappas said.
“We want to offer our congratulations to all the artists nominated for awards who continue to produce some of the best country music in the world.”
The nominees announcement was livestreamed to audiences across the country and overseas, with performances by multiple ARIA and Golden Guitar winner, Troy Cassar-Daley, as well as Luke O’Shea & Ashleigh Dallas and rising star Cass Hopetoun.
Tamworth Regional Council and the CMAA will present the Toyota 50th Golden Guitar Awards live on Saturday, 22 January 2022, from Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre and livestreamed via the Festival website.
