Chance to see the `Hoff' live
By SHIRLEY BROUN
THE star of Knight Rider and Baywatch, David Hasselhoff will kick off his National Tour of Australia tomorrow, February 14, at The Corner Hotel, Melbourne.
Channel 7 Sunrise viewers were given a glimpse into the humorous side of this international artist when he stood in for Kochie with `his angels’ segment and exchanged repartee with Entertainment Editor Nelson Aspen in New York.
At 60, Hasselhoff still cuts a striking figure and retains his appreciation for the opposite sex, no doubt quite used to being surrounded by good-looking ladies in the many roles he has played throughout his colourful career.
He has won acclaim for talking to his `highly intelligent’ car, Kit – who is kept motoring by continual public appearances around the world to this very day, despite the series enjoying its major success in the 1980s.
Then came the hugely popular hit of the 1990s Baywatch in which Hasselhoff played LA County lifeguard Mitch Buchanon. The series ended in 2001 with Baywatch Hawaii.
During the 90s the mention of David Hasselhoff’s name was often met with the response `Oh, Babe Watch’ from Aussies devoted to the series, particularly when there was talk of a possible tour.
After 11 years of making a living on the `beach’ in Baywatch, it is no wonder Hasselhoff loves Australia with its coastline of fabulous beaches. He has also worked with many Aussies in the past.
Aussie hit-maker and former Australian Idol judge who made the term `Touchdown’ famous, Mark Holden worked with Hasselhoff for three years, producing and coordinating his albums, live promotion and musical projects for television, particularly in Europe where Hasselhoff enjoyed multi-platinum successes including the Top Ten hit in Germany, Austria and Switzerland `Wir Zwei Allein Heut Nacht’ (`Together alone Tonight’) which Mark wrote with Hasselhoff.
Hasselhoff’s son on Baywatch, Jeremy Jackson, was also signed to Mark’s production company and had two hits in Europe including `You Can Run’ which was Top 5 in Holland.
The versatility of Hasselhoff is key to his longevity as a much loved and recognised star of stage and television. He has also starred in musicals such as Chicago, and The Producers. More recently, he has been in Australia for a series of Celebrity Apprentice.
Now he returns to give us a taste of his musical talents live across Australia in his `An Evening with the Hoff’ National Tour. His performances have been described as an intimate, hilarious evening of song, dance and audience interaction. It is certain to be an evening to remember.
