Aussie scores triple Grammy win

THE Aussies shone once again at the 55th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles with home-grown talents Gotye winning all three awards in his nominated categories - Record of the Year, Best Alternative Music Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

And the winners are:

WOUTER `Wally' De Backer, also known professionally by his stage name Gotye, is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumental musician and singer-songwriter. The name `Gotye'  is derived from `Gauthier', the French equivalent of `Walter' or `Wouter'.

Wouter De Backer was born on May 21, 1980, in Bruges and his music group is called The Basics. Formed by Goyte and Kris Schroeder in 2001, their style has been described as anything from `indie-pop' to `rock'n'roll' to 'pop-rock', though their records show they span a wide range of genres, including reggae, ska, country, and electro-pop. They are recognised as one of Australia's `hardest-working bands'.
