UPDATE: BERT Newton is recovering in intensive care after quadruple bypass heart surgery at Richmond's Epworth Hospital. The hospital confirmed that the five-and-half-hour surgery went according to plan.

ONE of our all time favourite Showbiz Personalities, Bert Newton, is about to undergo major heart surgery in Melbourne. Bert will have quadruple heart surgery today, November 24, and he will take the best wishes of a nation into the operating theatre with him.

And, the professional that he is, Bert still wears that winning smile in anxious anticipation of the over 5-hour ordeal ahead.
