THE Four Kinsmen are very much the quiet achievers when it comes to winning awards. They are believed to hold a record for `MO' Award wins, having amassed 19 of the prestigious statuettes in the 19-year history of the awards.

IF you want to become a recording artist or to pursue a career in the entertainment industry take time to learn how to read music. This is the advice of long time entertainer and former Delltones lead singer, Nevin McLean.

“Being able to read music, even just the basics, gives you the ability to understand it, and helps you to develop intonation and timing and to eventually grow as a performer,” said Nevin, who has been performing since he was encouraged into the industry in his late teens by veteran entertainer Johnny O’Connor (known in the 60s as Australia’s Bing Crosby).

Variety Today turns two (1993)

VARIETY Today and 150 dedicated supporters saw the new year off in fine spirits as they joined together at top Gold Coast venue, Paradise Country, to celebrate the publication's Second Birthday.

It was a night which brought together entertainment industry members from all areas - performers, managers, agents, media, their families, friends and supporters - and one which highlighted a tremendous kinship and warmth among all attendees.

FOLLOWING rave reviews in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Fisher-King has won the most prestigious award in Australian variety entertainment.

Stephen actually picked up two `MO' Awards at the gala ceremony at Sydney's Entertainment Centre on June 18. First up, he won the Best Male Vocalist Variety Performer, ahead of Marty Rhone, Sandy Scott and Tony Pantano, then took out the equivalent to the Gold Logie ...

HERE'S a line up of talent you wouldn't want to miss - Rolf Harris, three of The Four Kinsmen - Scott Radburn, Graham Wilson, and Robert Pearson - with the $100 million man, illusionist Lance Burton.

Lance, who scored a huge contract to star at the fabulous, newly opened Monte Carlo Casino in Las Vegas for well into the next century, hosted these Aussie ambassadors in his dressing room after the show.

Away from the Spotlight

HAVE you ever wondered what entertainers do in their `spare time'?

Well there is something to be said for performing in a group because immediately there is a `team spirit' to inject into outside activities, putting a `group' a step ahead.
