Flashback to Variety Today 1994
WITH more than three decades of performances under his belt, Ian `Peewee' Wilson is continuing the tradition of fabulous show group, The Delltones. Recently, he welcomed the return of Danny Mayers after lead singer, Nevin McLean left the group in June this year.
As the only remaining foundation member of the venerable Delltones, Peewee has led the group through good times and bad since he formed a rock'n'roll band in 1958 and began playing regularly at Sydney's Bronte Surf Club.
The instant success and lasting popularity have come as something of a surprise to Peewee. "I was a young apprentice in the building trade and it never occurred to me that entertaining was going to be my profession, not even when I got the Bronte group going with three mates," he said.
The Delltones recorded a number of hit songs which all raced to the top of national Top 40 charts. In the late 60s they toured the United Kingdom but when they return to Australia the group broke up. In the early 1980s, Peewee got together a new band and The Delltones were reborn.
Through the 80s and 90s The Delltones have recorded five albums, Bob Til Ya Drop, Tickled Pink, Out in the Open, Oasis and their live concert album The Ultimate Recollection.
