`GRAVITY' LIFTS MUSICAL THEATRE
STAR INTO THE RECORDING STUDIO
DUBBED the best female vocalist in Australia, musical theatre superstar Jemma Rix has released her much anticipated debut album, GRAVITY.
To launch her new album, Jemma Rix will also perform three ‘one night only’ concerts at Hayward Street Studios in Brisbane (August 12, 2017), the Hayes Theatre in Sydney (August 20 - sold out) and Chapel off Chapel in Melbourne (August 27).
After clocking up an astonishing 1200 performances as Elphaba, the misunderstood wicked witch in Wicked, the aptly named album is a compilation of Jemma Rix’s favourite musical theatre songs.
From soaring power ballads including ‘Someone Like You’ to Queen’s ‘Somebody to Love’ as well as the iconic ‘Defying Gravity’, GRAVITY is a masterclass in vocal perfection.
The album also features two stunning duets with musical theatre favourites Rob Mills and Kane Alexander.
Jemma explains: “The songs that I have chosen come from a variety of musicals that I have either performed in or have a deep connection with. My first love was pop music, so this album features the songs you would expect to hear me sing but with pop undertones you weren’t. I hope you like it!”
Heralding from the Central Coast, Jemma moved to Melbourne to follow her dream of becoming a Musical Theatre performer.
Following her first contract as a performer at Japan’s Universal Studios, Jemma was cast as Elphaba Standby in the original Australian cast of Wicked, and performed the leading role of Elphaba across Australia during both Australian tours, as well as in Singapore, Seoul, Auckland and Manila.
She went on to star as Molly Jensen in Ghost: The Musical during the Australian tour, and made her Sydney Opera House debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra concert Witches.
Jemma will next be reprising the role of the Wicked Witch in the upcoming GFO London Palladium production of The Wizard of Oz that will begin its national tour in Brisbane in October.
Her debut album, Gravity, is now available at www.jemmarix.com and can soon be downloaded from iTunes.
