AFTER a battle with cancer that lasted three years, popular radio host and councillor Max Thorburn has died, aged 72.
Well known to many members of the entertainment industry Max was the founder of Mildura community radio station Hot FM.
He was on the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia's Community Radio Network Advisory Committee and also founded the Mildura Country Music Festival.
Max was destined for a career in media from an early age having begun writing football reviews at the age of 13.
The Australian Country Music Broadcasters which inducted him into its Hall of Fame described him as `a country music legend'.
A man of many talents, Max would next year have celebrated a decade as a serving Mildura councillor.
Jade Hurley wrote the following on Facebook on October 18, 2018:
Today AUSTRALIAN radio and Country Music lost one of its greatest supporters.
After fighting cancer for many years, Max Thorburn lost his battle.
You were just THE BEST in EVERY WAY Max and I am so indebted to you for offering the advice you did after being one of the first to hear my yet to be released new forthcoming single.
Sincere condolences to your family. RIP OLD FRIEND.
This pic is of Max and myself having fun at the radio station ... and was taken in MILDURA in 1997.
