Bee Gees set to tour Australia
On With the Show'sFlashback to Variety Today 1997
Letter to Variety Today's Shirley Broun from Barbara Gibb
Dear Shirley,
We have been on the go since last December. I am now home for about a month, then off again. Did you manage to send Noelene Batley a `Variety Today', cos Barry gets mine.
Noelene is very well known in Australia, and goes over nearly every year and gets to work a few clubs around Sydney, where her folks still live. She had quite a few No.1 records including `Little Treasure from Japan', `Forgive Me' and `Barefoot Boy' which Barry wrote. Noelene was the first girl to get a No.1 record with that one.
We are preparing now for a world tour. The boys (Bee Gees) have a new album out called `Still Waters' which went into Billboard charts at No. 1 but was knocked to No.2 by the Spice Girls the following weekend. The single `Alone' went in at No.4, first week.
At the British Pop Awards they received the Lifetime Achievement as they did in America, being inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. Then to Monte Carlo for Canne Film Festival.
Kevin Jacobsen is handling the Australian side of the tour and that's the part I am looking forward to. Well I must close now Shirley. Look forward to seeing you in Australia.
Barbara Gibb
