INSPIRATIONAL SINGER'S MUSIC LIVES ON
AS PEOPLE WHOSE LIVES HE TOUCHED
MEET TO CELEBRATE HIS LIFE
HIS smile lit up a room and his voice could soothe the savage beast, such was the talent of much-loved entertainer Bill Alexander (Scott) who lost his battle with cancer on August 23 this year.
On Friday, September 8, a special Celebration of his Life was held at Burleigh Community Centre on the Queensland Gold Coast which was attended by about 100 of his family and friends, including yours truly.
During the past four years, since being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma - a form of blood cancer - Bill has enchanted his many Facebook followers and fellow members of the industry by posting up-to-date accounts of his journey... but not in a sad way!
He took everyone with him through the ups and downs endured throughout his treatment regime which included intense chemotherapy but his light-hearted and humorous approach to everything inspired all.
This wonderful human being who had a place in his heart for everyone and always had a big smile on his face right to the end was farewelled at a Celebration of Life, held in his honour. He was 79.
Many of his family and entertainment industry friends were there for the very special event which featured a Eulogy by Bill himself (there is no keeping a good man down), followed by a heart felt snapshot of his life and family from his beautiful wife of 56 years Robyn Scott, his son Leonard and daughter Jo.
There were tears, special memories, music and laughter for the dear man/friend/performer/husband/father and grandfather we all loved so much.
Many such as Craig Berry recounted happier times that inevitably involved lots of laughter and great personal memories shared while Bill's music echoed through the hall with his own renditions of `I Believe - Lord's Prayer' and `Somebody bigger than you and I'.
Celebrant on the day was the charming Julie Smith and music was provided by Bill's friends Valentine Jones, Owen Smith, Glenn Shepard and John Pieri with catering provided with extraordinary success by members of the Gold Coast Members of QCDA - Cake Decorators'.
I'd like to share with you the words by an unknown author that appeared on the Order of Celebratiion on the day for it was something Bill was renowned for ... his SMILE:
A smile costs nothing, but gives much.
It enriches those who receive,
without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment,
but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty
that he can get along without it,
and none is so poor
but that he can be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home,
fosters good will in business,
and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary,
cheer to the discouraged,
sunshine to the sad,
and is nature's best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen,
for it is something that is of no value to anyone
until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile.
Give them one of yours,
as none needs a smile so much
as he who has no more to give.
