REVIEW: Tap Dogs, Jupiters, Gold Coast, November 2012
By Shirley Broun
AS a former scholar of tap dancing, I could not pass up an opportunity to see some of Australia's top `tappers' first hand on the fabulous Jupiters stage.
I couldn't help but wonder what these talented dancers would do in a 80 minute non-stop show that just focused on `tap dancing', but was pleasantly surprised at the innovative ideas that flowed on the stage before us.
Tap Dogs is led by world-renowned performer Sheldon Perry whose long list of credits span from being in the original Australian cast of 42nd Street and an original cast member in Hot Shoe Shuffle touring to London's West End as Assistant Director and Choreographer to performing and touring with Tap Dogs for over 17 years.
I was blown away by the energy of the six main dancers ... an energy that extended to the two female drummers who kept the tempo bold and brilliant.
Taming the dancers would have been a huge challenge for their dance moves went far beyond expectations as they forged streams of water, scaled construction scaffolding and even tapped out an extraordinary routine upside down! Simply amazing.
Successfully combining dance with precision technique and timing, mixed with a light-hearted dash of humour and a skilful presentation by all on stage, made this a theatrical show not to be missed. I, for one, was mesmerised. No doubt, this is why Tap Dogs has been such a world wide hit, having performed in 330 cities in 37 countries around the world.
Now this brilliant show is on our doorstep, so don't miss out. Book today!
