PIPE BAND & THE GLENBRAE CELTIC DANCERS

IN WHAT is becoming an annual celebration, Claymore are bringing together some of their musical mates for a special evening of entertainment this December in A Celtic Christmas.

The saying goes that the Celts know how to celebrate, well anything, and it doesn’t get a much bigger family event than Christmas.

Last year Claymore kicked off their inaugural A Celtic Christmas show, anticipating a small get-together. It ended up being a packed house of hundreds.

A Celtic Christmas in 2018 looks set to follow suits with fantastic special guests Colin Lillie, Saoirse, the Hawthorn City Pipe Band and the Glenbrae Celtic Dancers.

Claymore need little introduction to audiences.

Heralded as one of the world’s premier Celtic rock bands, an evening in their company is always an unforgettably loud experience.

Claymore’s live shows demand that you are on your feet from the outset.

This enigmatic band of multi-instrumentalists not only manages to combine traditional elements of Celtic music, but they take that passion and soul and rock it right into the 21st century.

ew bands can pull off the sensitive task of re-educating the traditional realm into the modern day, but that’s something of a specialty for Claymore.

Not only that, but they manage to write beautiful original Celtic compositions, and even lend their style to some power rock classics.

There is little that Claymore haven’t done throughout their career. They have a host of impressive album releases under their belt and a long list of festival performances to their name.

Since the band’s inception more than two decades ago, they’ve released five impressive albums, and performed internationally from gigs in New York, Scotland and New Zealand, to several headline appearances at the reputed Festival Interceltique De Lorient France.

Combine this with performances at the biggest festivals on the Australian circuit and you’ve got an impressive musical resume.

CHRISTMAS A HIGHLIGHT

For Claymore lead singer William Hutton, A Celtic Christmas is one of the most exciting highlights on the end of year calendar for the band.

“I think Celtic people love any reason to have a party, and Christmas is right on the top of that list,” he says.

“Mixing it up is always the way we do it and we’re so glad to have Colin Lillie – from The Voice 2018 – and Saoirse, who have accompanied us to many Celtic events, both here and overseas, as the icing on the Christmas cake!

"With the addition of the Hawthorn City Pipe Band, it is going to be huge. There will be a small set from each act, with a bit of a super band at the end for everyone to get involved. This year you can also have a meal with the show – a Christmas dinner with the band, so to speak!”

Colin Lillie sprung into the national consciousness on the 2018 series of The Voice with his haunting rendition of Cat Stevens’ Father & Son in the blind auditions.

The Scotsman is no stranger to turning heads, he won the Northern Territory heat for the Telstra Road to Discovery in 2013. His debut album – Glass Homes – which was released in 2016 garnered him national acclaim, and the single, Give Thanks, won the NT Song Of the Year (Blues & Roots).

Colin channels a lifetime of experience into his music, from battling drugs and alcohol, he is now sober and has devoted his life to music, and what an incredible musical life it is.

Saoirse, the Gaelic word for freedom, are known for their vibrant Irish vocals and dance.

They delight their audience with beautiful renditions of Irish ballads and original works and their spirited jigs and reels are guaranteed to get the feet tapping.

They’ve performed at a swag of the country’s premier festivals including Port Fairy Folk Festival, Brunswick Music Festival and the National Folk Festival to name a few.

Tickets for A Celtic Christmas at the Thornbury Theatre, Thonbury Victoria on December 22, 2018 are on sale now.
