Flashback to Variety Today 1993

THAT zany, fun-loving motivator of Wickety Wak fame, Greg Doolan has come up with the ideal cure for those early morning `workday' blues.

Together with former `Wak' co-star Peter Mackay, Greg has invaded the airwaves of Gold coast-based Radio-97 with an hilarious spoof on those good old souls, Robin Hood and his merry (sometimes tiddly) men, dubbed `The Morning Wak Attack'.

Both Greg and Peter admit, their script bares little resemblance to the original characters. "I saw Robin Hood as being very gay and voluptuous, Will Scarlet has a lisp, and the script jumps between medieval times and modern day," Greg said.

Oddly enough, the leading characters - and those who are lagging behind - are portrayed by the talented duo in true `Wak' style. And, in keeping with the tradition that established Wicket Wak as one of this country's most successful show groups, witticism and ad-libs runs riot during taping sessions in the studio. "This is the first radio series we have written together but after working with Peter for 14 years, including 10 television specials, five albums and four videos - we find it easy to bounce off each other," Greg said.

Greg describes the on-air humour of the 90-second spoof, which debuted on November 18 in the 7.40am time slot, as very `Monty Python'. "I'm sure it's going to totally destroy people's images of Robin Hood."
Of course, all the characters are portrayed by Greg and Peter, both good impersonators with an inept ability to make them almost believable.

The first series was narrated by Radio-97 DJ Richard `Chook' Fowler, whose tongue-twisting lines must be heard to be believed. Already there are plans to syndicate the series nationally, which could take Greg and Peter to the breakfast tables of millions of homes throughout the country. Wak it to 'em guys!
