The Rogers and Hammerstein musical `Grand Night for Singing’ is a collaboration of all the composer’s songs, presented by a five-part ensemble of which Darren, 32, is one.
Stage and television work is no stranger to Darren who appeared in everything from stage show South Pacific with the Gordon Frost Organisation to a featured role in TV series Water Rats. The handsome singer, actor and musicians comes from a family of entertainers.
During the past decade, Darren has not only taken on solo performances but also stars with his father Warren, brothers Andrew and Warren Jnr, and sister Tracey, in the Warren Williams Family Show which is in big demand on the cabaret and corporate circuits. The show has been nominated for an Australian Entertainment `MO’ award five times.
Darren achieved his own accolade at this year’s awards in June by winning a `MO’ for Best 1 and 2 Performer Bands. Handsome, dark haired Darren is sure to have the girls swooning, if not with his brilliant and captivating voice – then with his youthful good looks. His cabaret show covers the gambit of `drop dead gorgeous’ singing star’s music ranging from Sinatra to Elvis to rock’n’roll and disco. Tony Bennett fans will not be disappointed either.
Darren said pursuing a career in entertainment was not a foregone conclusion, despite winning a State Eisteddfod when just 10 years of age. At 19 he was NSW State Body Building Champion with an ambition to be Mr Australia. “I really wanted to excel in the sport arena, and even tried cycling for a while,” said Darren.
By the age of 22, Darren says he woke up to his real ambition and joined his brother’s band `Shy Guys’, named after his father’s band on hit TV series `Bandstand’.
Next year, Darren plans to marry fiancé, Kiera Mulholland, who works in PR for the fashion industry.
